Summary
The feed entry points on printing and paper processing machines are critical areas in the operation process and are also hotspots for potential hazards.
Safeguarding Infeed Points on Printing and Paper Processing Machines with Safety Light Curtains
As the level of automation in machines and systems increases, the safety requirements for workplaces and processes are also rising. In the printing and paper processing industry, the feed location is a critical area where operators directly interact with machines, making its safety particularly important. Especially when manually loading printing plates, bottom cloths, or adjusting machines, operators need to get close to moving parts such as rollers, which poses a risk of finger and hand injuries/crushing.
Requirement:
When the machine is in operation, make sure that fingers/hands do not enter the feed position. If they do, respond immediately and stop the machine's dangerous movement
Solution:
Install a light curtain connected to a safety system directly in front of the feed position (dangerous position). It ensures that, without affecting the normal workflow, fingers or hands are strictly kept from entering the potential danger area. Once the light curtain detects any unauthorized entry, the safety system will immediately activate, without hesitation, to stop any machine movement that could pose a danger, ensuring the safety of the operator.
Operating principle:
A safety light curtain is a non-contact safety protection device that detects object proximity by emitting and receiving infrared light beams. When an operator's fingers or hands enter the detection area of the light curtain, the beam is interrupted, and the safety system responds immediately to stop the machine's dangerous movement. In inching mode, the safety function is activated. The horizontal light beams of the grid are installed in front of the dangerous position of the rollers. If fingers or palms get too close to the dangerous position, disrupting the beam, the safety system will immediately halt the dangerous movement. Once the beam is released again, the machine can continue operating in inching mode.
Advantages and Benefits:
• Enhanced Safety: The application of safety measures such as safety light curtains significantly reduces safety risks during operations, ensuring the safety of operators.
• Increased Efficiency: By combining automated control with safety protection systems, production efficiency can be improved while ensuring safety.
• Cost Savings: Pre-developed and process-optimized safety solutions can save users time and costs, while also reducing losses caused by accidents.
