Collision Prevention Solution for Gantry Loaders Using Laser Distance Sensors

Summary

DADISICK's GFL-Y series laser distance sensors assist in collision prevention for automated gantry loading systems. By detecting distances up to 10 meters to the next robot, the sensors enable precise buffer zones, ensuring loaders slow down or stop, preventing collisions, safeguarding equipment, and enhancing production efficiency.

In modern automated machining centers, gantry loaders play a crucial role in achieving high-speed, precise transportation and loading/unloading of workpieces. Some advanced loaders are even capable of handling workpieces weighing up to 150 kg, autonomously loading them into the machine for processing and unloading them once the operation is complete.

Given that multiple gantry loaders often operate on the same track, the risk of collisions becomes a significant concern. To prevent such incidents, each gantry robot is equipped with two laser distance sensors mounted on its sides. These sensors are capable of detecting distances of up to 10 meters to the next robot ahead, providing real-time data on proximity.

Thanks to the independent dual switch outputs from the laser distance sensors, a precise safety buffer can be defined. This buffer allows the gantry loaders to either slow down or come to a complete stop, thereby preventing collisions and minimizing the risk of damage to the equipment and ensuring operator safety.

This innovative collision prevention solution not only enhances the overall safety of the automated workflow but also ensures uninterrupted operations, reducing downtime and maintenance costs. By integrating laser distance sensors, businesses can achieve a safer and more efficient production environment.
