Background Suppression Photoelectric Sensor

In real-world applications, conventional photoelectric sensors can be easily affected by external factors such as strong light, same-frequency interference, reflective objects, and background environments. For instance, on some production lines, there may be cases where the background color closely matches that of the detected object. This can lead to false triggering or even failure to detect lighter-colored objects when using traditional diffuse reflection photoelectric sensors. In such cases, a background suppression photoelectric sensor effectively mitigates these interferences, ensuring precise and reliable detection.

What is a Background Suppression Photoelectric Sensor?

A background suppression photoelectric sensor (BGS) is a specialized type of photoelectric sensor designed to shield the background interference and accurately detect the target object. The sensor operates by setting a specific detection range, ensuring that the target object is detected only within that range. Any background interference outside this range is effectively suppressed, preventing misdetection or false readings caused by objects or backgrounds with similar colors or reflective properties.

Working Principle of Background Suppression Photoelectric Sensors

Background suppression photoelectric sensors typically operate based on the triangulation principle. Using precise measurement technology, the sensor can distinguish between the background and the target object, regardless of differences in surface color or texture, without needing to manually adjust the detection distance.

A background suppression diffuse reflection photoelectric sensor can detect objects accurately within a predefined detection range. The sensor works as follows:

1️⃣ Emission and Reflection: The emitter sends out light, which strikes the object. The reflected light is then focused by the lens. If the object is within the detection range, a portion of the reflected light will be focused on the receiver’s near point, causing the sensor to send an "ON" signal.

2️⃣ Distance Change and Signal Switching: As the object moves farther away from the sensor, the focused light moves toward the far point. At the maximum detection range, the reflected light will be divided between the near and far points, and the sensor will output an "OFF" signal.

3️⃣ Beyond Range: When the object moves further beyond the detection range, all reflected light is focused at the far point, and the sensor will continue to output the "OFF" signal.

Through this mechanism, the background suppression photoelectric sensor can accurately identify the target object in complex environments, without being affected by background lighting or color similarity to the target object.

Application Scenarios

Background suppression photoelectric sensors are widely used in many industrial automation fields, particularly where precise positioning and detection are required. Typical applications include:

▪️Photovoltaic Silicon Wafer Detection: In solar manufacturing, these sensors efficiently identify and detect small defects or flaws on silicon wafers, ensuring quality control.

▪️Detection and Positioning in Wire Bonding Machines: In automated wire bonding processes, these sensors precisely locate the bonding points to ensure the quality of the bonds.

▪️Edge Recognition of Glass Substrates or Thin-Film Solar Modules: These sensors can be used in the production of glass substrates and thin-film solar modules to detect edges or position materials, ensuring that the size and shape of the product meet the required specifications.
